Craig Alexander has edged out Aussie sporting greats such as Cadel Evans, Steve Hooker, Mark Webber and Jarryd Hayne in a publicly voted race to be named the Sports Performer of the Year. His amazing back to back victories in the grueling Hawaiian Ironman, placed him in elite company of only three other athletes that have managed to back up and win 2 years in a row.
The Awards Night recognised Kurt Fearnley as the Performer of the Year with a Disability, Lauren Mitchell as Best Young Talent, Bart Cummings as Coach of the Year, as well as the Australian Socceroos as Team of the Year.
Four Legends of Australian Sport were also recognised on the night for their Sporting lives, and in a unique format outlined each others careers. These four were Michael O’Laughlin and Tom Harley ( AFL), Mark Skaife ( Motor Racing) and Shane Kelly a true legend of Australian Cycling.
